The Importance of Vehicle Maintenance

As our boss over at Pillar Surplus would say, “The most important things are safety, safety, safety!” So, since March is our Vehicle Sale Special, we saw the opportunity to talk about the importance of vehicle maintenance. Building this awareness can possibly help our customers to be as safe as we are over here at Pillar Surplus.

I found that even when it comes to vehicle parts that seem minor, repairs should not be procrastinated and should be corrected as soon as possible. Each part is like a gear that keeps all the other gears spinning. Moving through icy winters, spring floods, and summer potholes, your car goes through a lot! From belts, brake parts, fuses, air filters, and lights they all have a job that will help provide our customers the convenience and safety needed for the road.

An air filter may be one of your least concerns in your vehicle, but filters prevent pollutants, dust, smog, mold, spores, and unwanted debris from entering inside the cabin and other components under the hood of your car. Without the filter, the air you must breathe while driving would make you and all passengers very miserable. Also, keep in mind when the air is dirty the air conditioner will have to work a lot harder and cause your motor to burn up. Your car must also breathe! So, when your air is dirty you should replace your air filter around every 30,000 miles.

Your car runs on gas, electricity, and fuses! Gratefully, they are a low-priced component of your vehicle. Keeping your fuses in shape protects your electrical systems from having power shortages, short circuits, and major repair bills. Therefore, fuses are another part to replace every so often.

Belts are used to improve acceleration, and gas mileage. Replacement prevents costly auto repairs.
The serpentine belt powers the engine's accessories and is easy to replace, but since it is made to assist the heart of your automobile, it can affect a large portion under the hood. V-belts are important as well and transmit the power your steering, air compressor, and water pump. If you push-off to repair this part it will lead to the need to replace many more belts and parts.

Lights are always noticed when they are not working properly because lights are a need when the sun is no longer out. And since no one wants a ticket, most people don’t fail at replacing their tail and headlights. When lights are not repaired, other drivers can become confused and your visual experience while traveling can be very on edge. It is best to have clean and working lights will provide the best safety when there is not much daylight. It's a good idea to make sure that these are cleaned off in the winter time as well.

One of the most important parts to manage in your car are brake parts. Without quality brake parts, your vehicle cannot be as safe as it was built to be. Brake pads should be replaced generally around 50,000 miles. Though, if a car is driven in a busy city all its life it’s more likely to change brakes around 25,000 miles. Brakes should be checked at least twice a year or whenever you suspect something is wrong. Hints that should make a driver suspicious are when you hear noises coming from under the vehicle, feel vibrations, see a light warning, and experiencing overheating.

Tires are one of the most important components. Why? Four vigorous tires under the vehicle’s body hold all the weight ranging around 4,100 pounds. Tires having one of the hardest jobs during the seasons and can affect an automobile overall. They should be checked around the same time as brakes. When it comes to rotation, it should be every 6 months. Fuel costs can also be lowered because of the tire efficiency and safety.

Another product that should be consistently changed are the windshield wipers. Wipers are very essential for the clarity of your windshield. Owning worn out wipers and a dirty windshield can be very hazardous in rain storms. Even imagine accidentally getting mud all over the front of your car, you will really start thinking about how you should have bought those new wipers because you cannot see past your windshield.  Therefore, don’t wait till the wiper no longer makes proper contact to your windshield, replace every 6 months to a year, no longer.

I hope that today’s blog expands our audience’s knowledge of the importance of vehicle maintenance. If any parts needed give our website search to find quality parts that are shipped at great speed. We would love to provide the part to boost your vehicles safety, safety, safety!
