Acquiring Unique Parts

Large metal shipping containers full of crates are brimming with product to send and inventory. Pillar Surplus helps provide customer convenience by stocking up on unique and hard to find parts. If someone ever comes up dry searching a part from a specific brand, they have Pillar Surplus to lean on. We have had multiple interactions with auctions and close-outs to collect these desired parts. Engaging with our recent auctions has imported in our quality Bobcat and Caterpillar parts, vehicle filters, hydraulic hammer parts, and Dodge truck parts fro example. Older auctions have delivered in parts like bearings from various locations into our inventory as well.

When it comes to researching a unique, discontinued or rare part in inventory, it can be challenging. For example, we had a Caterpillar part from the 1970’s with part number 5P94 it became very complicated to research. So, after not being able to find this part online we flipped through multiple manuals, leading us to the fact that it was now listed as 5P0094.  This was very important to do the next step of finding the price range this part fell in to.

Regularly, we look at our website and see if similar parts are listed with other lot numbers and then check pricing sources to get an average, in order to compete with other companies. Sometimes we are unable to find another part to compare the price, so we take a similar item and use that price along with a discount, lowering repair expenses with older yet new parts that ship fairly quick.

Our Caterpillar and Bobcat parts are now available from purchases through companies such as CAT Auctions, Iron Planet and close-outs such as High-Country Mine Supply. Though, participating in many auctions and close-outs, like High Country Supply, can lead to us having parts that we may not remember having in stock. Though, having too many of these parts creates another challenge because the demand for parts can be staggering.

Gladly, all our hard to find and unique Toyota parts are still at consistent demand in Australia especially for Land Rover vehicles.  And most of our Kubota parts are still in demand as well because of the quality compared to modern parts today. Our stock Kubota parts are so old in surplus that the labels have Japanese lettering from the 1970’s when the L175 tractor was being marketed worldwide.

Therefore there is still a benefit all around when it comes to keeping discontinued, unique or rare parts at Pillar Surplus. We strive for accuracy and break through these challenges to bring our customers the best when it comes to the parts they yearn for.
