What Kind of Earth-Minded Decisions Do You Make Daily?: A Question All Businesses Should Consider

 All resources used to create your product or service starts from some form of nature. Businesses easily can put out air pollution, water waste, land pollution, marine and coastal pollution, hazardous material, solid waste, pesticides, radiation, dust (asbestos), lead and oil during production. Without even considering environmental impact, resources can become limited very quickly.

China’s industry dominates its economy. With so much carbon coming from businesses, they are becoming indirectly responsible for thousands of deaths of China’s citizens. But let’s move a little closer to home, Ohio, United States. Ohio is the number one state polluting through power plants and through other industries.  36.4 million pounds of harmful chemicals were emitted into the environment in 2010 from Ohio, not including the 4,210 pounds of industrial mercury air pollution itself. So again, I ask, what earth-minded decisions do you make daily?

Pillar Surplus is a business of recycling. We reuse wrapping and packing material inside packages, and crates. The broken parts are disassembled and sent in for recycling. ETO Magnetics give us the crates, we pick up monthly, to store our parts in, instead of sending the crates to waste. Because of that, so much less is sent to a landfill and so much less has to be reproduced. Then at the end of the day, all the lights are turned off and electronics are unplugged. 

What we do over at Pillar Surplus can be so little and still be largely beneficial to our beloved Earth.  Businesses all around the globe make decisions daily involving environmental impact and so do we.  Nature gives us the resources to start a business, so make time to give back on a daily basis before everything becomes limited.


In conclusion, here are a couple tips to start with to reduce environmental impact:
  •         Talk about how your business is impacting the environment so a problem can be identified and work your way into possible solutions.
  •      Become efficient. Reuse and recycle whatever you can to lower waste amounts, unplug appliances not being used and use energy efficient equipment like light bulbs and radiators to reduce carbon emissions.
