What it’s like Working at Pillar Surplus
“Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in
and day out,” (R. Coiller). From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. every Monday through Friday,
my fellow co-workers consistently have hard work running through their veins.
The business’s friendly service and our nicely-priced quality parts keep Pillar
Surplus on its toes.
When offering a variety of items, there are many steps
when it comes to inventory. Workers have to gather part numbers from each part,
to be documented on research forms for future use. Then they need to be counted
and then photographed. Next, more research is done to collect general
information and average pricing, so they can list the part on the website,
Craigslist and/or eBay. Inventorying can get really in-depth but brings
convenience to the customer’s table. When taking these steps, information on
the parts becomes transparent. Customers know exactly what they are buying and
view the condition of the product before purchasing by viewing the photos
taken. Also, when we do research on the part we can make sure that it’s not
priced too high.
After inventorying, the parts are now for sale. Customers
roll in and start to place purchasing orders for our new products. Employees
that handle our order processing, work on forms of communication, like the
phone or email, to fulfill orders. Order processors engage with databases to
observe the process and track orders to make sure it is at satisfactory. Their
constant management and execution makes our shipping speedy, just the way our customers like it.
Sales reports are racking up at the same time. It is
crucial to pay attention to these reports to have a proficient business. Sales
data helps us understand what is working within the business versus what is
not. It is to be analyzed so that Pillar can compete and plan marketing efficiently
as well as having the ability to create sales on relevant products.
Then there is the job of customer assistance that all
of us at Pillar Surplus try to help with to provide friendly and productive
service. This is one of the primary points where the business and customers are
invariably talking to provide support about products. Employees need to have
great communication skills, patience, and problem-solving skills in order to
engage with customer assistance. Another form of assistance that Pillar Surplus
provides is product sourcing for highly requested items. When a customer needs
a specific part that they’re personally having a hard time navigating, we can
apply our skills and investigate a company’s products for them when possible.
Though, those are only some of the wonderful jobs at
Pillar Surplus that help make the business thrive. All the small efforts from
each job tie into something big, like making hundreds (and growing) of
customers happy.
